Multi-Percussionist, Instructor, and Instrument-Maker, Jeff Holland will be at the Fine Arts Center March 6, 7, and 8. His residency, funded by the Artist-in-Education grant, will focus on folkloric Brazilian drumming and its application to drum set playing. FAC percussion students will participate in this residency. (Though Brass Class and Music Theory I will meet as usual, students from these classes may, with the permission of their other FAC teachers, attend some or all workshops.)Holland works hard as a performing, teaching and recording artist in the Greenville, SC area. He offers private lessons through Palmetto Music and can be seen live performing with The Work, Indigo City, Ninth Row, Tambou Fou, Black Market and many others.
A graduate of Fine Arts Center and Hillcrest High School, Jeff continued his studies at Limestone, Winthrop, UNCA, Greenville Tech, and with many private instructors. His research of ethnomusicology, the study of music and how it relates to culture, inspired him to collect and study instruments from around the world. He has composed and performed with Carolina Ballet, Imani Dance Troupe, Greenville Ballet and Furman Modern Dance Group.
Actively sharing knowledge through Artist in Residence, Arts Integration and After School programs, Mr. Holland and Metropolitan Arts Council have provided many local schools and colleges proof that percussion is not just a means of communication but also an entertaining approach to educational standards. Currently, Jeff is organizing a network of the southeast’s premier percussionists and dance groups for corporate events and youth retreats. Energizing each group with drum and dance related exercises, our themes involve ice breaking, teamwork, stress reduction, confidence building, community togetherness and the strength of the individual within
