Ongoing Projects Week of March 13

With our two recent residencies now behind us (have you checked out the images below?) students in all of my classes can expect to hunker down and to work intensely on current projects. Even having studio time during class hours at the Fine Arts Center, Percussion and Brass students should be logging in significant and well-structured practice time each evening and especially on weekends. The amount of time, of course, is dependent on a student's particular "program," other homework assignments, and family activities. Ideally, however, home practice time for my students should look like the following:
• Josh Caprell: 1-2 hours
• Ben Tomlinson: 1-2 hours
• Adam Maalouf: about 1 hour
• Eli Ackermann: about 1 hour
• Rebecca Schillizzi: about 1 hour
• Eric Schneider: 30-45 minutes
• Alex Forrest: 30-45 minutes
• Masin Decker: about 1 hour
• Justin Pasquale: about 1 hour
• Nathan Wells: more than an hour because of make-up projects
All of my students can expect a rigorous playing check on Friday, March 17. Alex, Eric, Nathan, and Masin were given extensions on their 3/10 playing checks, which will me made up on Monday, 3/13.
Music Theory students will be delving ever more deeply into four-part writing in the style of Bach, sight singing, solfege, and rhythmic training. Their homework should consist of something from each of the above, and should last about 30 minutes each evening. My theory students can expect a challenging test on Friday, March 17.
