FAC Percussion & Strasser Tackle Rosauro

Most Fine Arts Center brass, woodwind, and percussion students are finishing pedagogical, "process" work on their instruments and are gearing up for upcoming concerts and recitals. Though we have other performances coming up in the mean time (more on this in a later post) our major staging will be our May 13th recital at the Fine Arts Center. Expect a big evening with lots of IMPRESSIVE musical offerings! One of them will be Ney Rosauro's Concerto No. 1 for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble. FAC's Advanced Percussion Class and Graduate Intern Josh Caprell have taken on this four-movement work, with Mallet Monster Wesley Strasser hefting the demanding solo marimba part. When I figure out how to do this, I intend to post a video clip of a recent rehearsal. In the mean time, however, enjoy these images of Wesley, Josh (on vibraphone), timpanist Jacob Lawler, percussionist Zach Purdun, xylophone player Robert Mullis, and bass marimba player Jaron Ferrer.
