One of today's young great flutists, Nicolas Duchamp appears regularly as a soloist and with many chamber musicians in France. Principal Flutist of the "National Opera Comique" in Paris since 2004, his orchestral experience has permitted to him to have a rich musical life under the direction of many great maestros. At the age of 14, Nicolas Duchamp began studying in Paris with masters from the famous French school of flute playing. During these years he won 5 first prizes. He finished his studies with Maxence Larrieu at the "Conservatoire National Supérieur.” Nicolas Duchamp appeared in international music competitions in Austria, Germany, and France where in won the "International Flute Prize Jacques Chambon.” In 2003, he was awarded "a cultural distinction of progress" in French Senate. He has recorded two CDs with pianist Olga Vassileva; the most recent recording includes previously unreleased music by Verdi. Pedagogy is also his passion. Nicolas Duchamp is often called to teach master classes in France to prepare students for competitions. He is the assistant to Jean Ferrand and is professor at the Ecole normale supérieure de Musique in Paris.
